Speaking to RIK Central News, the mother of the 40-year-old case of monkey pox in Cyprus complained of a lack of specific drugs that could help her son recover.

At the same time, the patient's mother said that "his condition is constantly deteriorating" and that the only medical treatment he receives is strong doses of antibiotics.

The patient and his mother appealed for the arrival of vaccines and medicines for smallpox in Cyprus as soon as possible so that the close contacts of the 40-year-old, including young children, can be protected.

Health Ministry contacts for sending vaccines

The Health Minister is in contact with his counterparts in neighbouring countries, so that vaccines for smallpox can be sent to Cyprus, the Communication Advisor of the Health Minister, Konstantinos Athanasiou, noted in his turn, also speaking to RIK's Central News bulletin.

He noted that the Republic of Cyprus has joined the joint procurement mechanism of drugs and vaccines for the disease from the very first moment and said that the receipt of vaccines in Cyprus is expected at the end of August.



Regarding the state of health of the 40-year-old man who is being treated with the blessing of the monkeys at Nicosia General Hospital, Mr Athanasiou stated for his part that his state of health is good and he is receiving the best available treatment.
