The deceased of the Euroferry Olympia was identified by his relatives
The body of a Greek man[/B] was found in the burning ship Euroferry Olympia, which caught fire on Friday morning off Corfu.
He is a 58-year-old truck driver, whose body has been identified by his relatives. He was found in garage 2 of the burning Euroferry Olympia.
According to MEGA, the unfortunate man was identified by his son from a medallion and a tattoo on his body.
Meanwhile, on board the ship, searches continue by specialized crews to locate the other 10 missing persons. Recall that earlier today, a 21-year-old man was found alive.
In fact, the rescued man reportedly said he heard voices from the other missing persons, which now total 10.
Searches are continuing
Men from the fire brigade and EMAK have boarded the ship and are proceeding to check the safe areas of the ship, specifically where large heat loads have not been deployed on the outside and inside the ship, ERT reported.
Also from the Kassiopi stadium a helicopter of the Fire Brigade picked up men of the EMAK who will assist in the search for the 10 missing persons.
The ferry, in which small fires are still burning, has been towed northeast of Corfu to avoid a marine pollution. It has also tilted slightly but is in no danger of sinking as it is tied up by the tugs.
"So I survived two days on the burning ship."
"When the fire broke out I was asleep. When I woke up and realized that there was a fire, I tried to find an escape route but I couldn't. There was a very high temperature and I decided to stay in the cab of the truck. I stayed for two days and turned on the truck's lights sporadically to see what was happening because I was afraid of a fire in the garage where I was," the 21-year-old told authorities.
"I kept hearing noises but I couldn't know where they were coming from."
"I kept hearing noises but I couldn't know where they were coming from. I came out on the third day when I realized the temperature had dropped and to make sure I grabbed the metal sheets with my hands. I searched blindly and finally saw a sign that said 'emergency exit'. I followed it and managed to get out of the spot where I was," he adds.
Coastguards estimate that there are three elements that kept the Belarusian driver alive. First, that he was in garage - 1 where there was no fire. It had occurred between the second and third deck of the ship.
The second is that the garages are airtightly sealed so that a large amount of smoke did not get inside. The third and equally important was his coolness.
