Frangos responds on Audit Report for RIK and speaks of inaccuracies What the former Chairman of the Board of Directors says
The former Chairman of the Board of Directors of RIK Andreas Frangos, commenting on the remarks contained in its latest report on RIK the Audit Office says that report in two, at least, issues concerning it contains inaccuracies and expresses the view that these may be due to the fact that EY has not or did not take into account the updated "Report on the Organisational Structure of RIK" of November 2019, prepared by the same consultancy firm that prepared a similar report in 2014.
It further states that in the last report of the consultancy house in terms of staff, there were 79 permanent employees and 264 Full Time Employees (full time) for a total of 343, excluding non-organic workers and Fixed Term Employees and that the Board proposed 220 positions, which after consultations with the guilds, a reduction to 263 was agreed upon.
The reduction in staff could have been achieved by the immediate dismissal of 80 people, but instead of this option which would have left 80 families on the street in times of economic crisis and pandemic, it was agreed that they would serve against permanent posts (with many conditions) and double up on retirement, he adds, noting that not only are these not mentioned in the Audit Office Report but instead the EY records that the Board acted against the recommendations of the Advisory House which, "of course, is not true".
With regard to the issue raised by the EY in its report on letter no. 6 May 2021 to the Minister of Interior which he signed as Chairman of the Board and according to EY is an intervention of the as an incompetent body for the hiring of a particular presenter, Mr. Fragou says that he fully agrees with EY that the Chairman of the Board. He adds that the letter was prepared by the Service and referred to 5 partners to cover urgent needs of RIK, was given to him for signature on May 6, 2019 and was sent to the Minister of Interior the following day with notification to the Deputy Minister of Interior and to the Minister of Interior.
He adds that the letter was prepared by the Service and referred to 5 partners to cover urgent needs of RIK, was given to him for signature on May 6, 2019 and was sent to the Minister of Interior the following day with notification to the Deputy Minister of Interior. He states that the letter was signed by him in his position as Chairman of the Board of Directors since it was addressed hierarchically to the Minister from whom RIK was seeking the approval of the Ministry concerned and takes the position that the EY report is unfair to him, to say the least.
According to him, during his tenure he had the choice of either doing nothing and claiming it was difficult and just trying or having the courage to make significant changes and solutions to problems that remained at the mercy of endless discussions.
Also stating that it is a shame to tarnish the reputation of honest people who naively believed that they could do little for their country he adds that the position he held does not provide for any salary nor is it an official position and that he left RIK with two cups with the RIK logo which he bought from his canteen and a pin which he proudly wore.
"The way I had to leave and the way any person holding public office should leave," he adds.
