The Ministry of Health announces that today, 29 January 2022:
- 4 deaths were announced from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 730.
- 203 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 68 are in serious condition. A proportion of 74.39% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an intensive care unit.
- A total of 83,766 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests have been performed.
- 2,184 (positivity rate: 2.61%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the PCR and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 251,125.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 4 deaths announced with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
A male, aged 83 years, who died on 28 January at Limassol General Hospital.
A male, aged 70 years, who died on 28 January at the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
A man, aged 92, who died on 28 January at Nicosia General Hospital.
A man, aged 92, who died on 29 January at Famagusta General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 730, of which:
- 456 men (62.5%), and
- 274 women (37.5%).
The average age of those who died from the disease is 76.2 years.
B. Inpatients:
In total, 203 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYPY, of which 68 are in serious condition or in PICU.
Of the 68 patients in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) off ventilator and 36 are in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 83,766 diagnoses performed, 5,970 were performed by the molecular method (PCR) and 77,796 by the antigen rapid test, 2,184 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 31 cases from 156 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 59 cases out of 3,032 samples taken in the framework of passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 308 cases out of 2,538 samples taken through private initiative.
- 13 cases out of 224 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 1,052 cases out of 43,782 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 721 cases out of 34,014 samples tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case:
- 0 cases from 20 specimens obtained under the Personal Physician Referral and Special Group Screening Program through the Public Health Clinics.
