The Ministry of Health announces that today, 7 January 2022:
- No deaths of patients with COVID-19 as the final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 650.
- 230 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, of whom 81 are in serious condition. A proportion 77.83% of hospitalized have no history of vaccination.
- 18 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in serious condition due to COVID in an intensive care unit.
- A total of 139,334 tests[/B] for detection of the disease by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test have been performed.
- 5,244 (positivity rate: 3.76%) new cases of COVID-19 have been detected by the molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 197,401.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of patients with COVID-19 were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 disease remains 650, of which:
- 411 males (63.2%), and
- 239 females (36.8%).
The average age of deaths from the disease is 76 years.
B]B. Inpatients:
In total, 230 patients
with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the hospitals of the OCYP, of which 81 are in severe condition or on NSAIDs.
Of the 81 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, 5 are in an Intensive Care Unit off ventilator and 48 are in an Intensive Care Unit.

Γ. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and antigen rapid test):
Of the 139,334 diagnoses performed, 13,007 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 126,327 by the antigen rapid test method, 5244 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting in the following:
- 138 cases from 1,030 samples obtained through the contact tracing procedure of already confirmed cases.
- 55 cases out of 4,036 samples taken in the framework of passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 748 cases out of 7,220 samples taken through private initiative.
- 62 cases out of 615 samples taken by the Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals.
- 3,011 cases out of 88,689 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 1,222 cases from 37,638 specimens tested by the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
- 7 cases from 104 specimens obtained under the Personal Physician Referral and Special Group Screening Programme through Public Health Clinics.
- 1 case from 2 samples taken in the framework of audits in closed facilities.
