A fire broke out on Christmas Day in an apartment building in Makarios Avenue[/B], in the centre of Nicosia.

Specifically, around 21.12 on Saturday night, a fire broke out in an apartment located on the 4th floor of a seven-storey block of flats on Makarios Avenue.

Four fire engines[/B] from Nicosia Fire Stations responded to extinguish the fire[/B]

The apartment suffered extensive damage from the fire, while fortunately no citizen was endangered by the fire.

"The smoke damaged the common areas of the building and the apartments on the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th floors. For the extinguishing of the fire the dry fire hose was used", according to the spokesman of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis.
