The Famagusta Yacht Club mourns, as stated in a statement, for the death of Panikos Prokopiou, who passed away on Monday 27 December and expresses sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
It reports at the same time that in an extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors of the Club, as a sign of respect and mourning for his loss it was decided that the flags of the NOA fly at half-mast for 3 days, the presence of the entire Board of Directors at the funeral and the laying of a wreath, postponement of the planned traditional festive event of holy water and cutting of the royal cake, on January 09 and renaming of one of the two annual marathons within the framework of the Ioannides, to the Panicos Prokopios Marathon.
Panikos Prokopiou one of the founding members of the Famagusta Yacht Club, was an athlete of the N.O.A. in swimming, water polo, sailing, speedboats and rowing.
He was also a member of the Boards of Directors from various positions, a member of the Executive Council of the COE, as well as a 20-year President of the COEC and a representative of Cyprus in COMEN (Mediterranean Swimming Federation).
