The United Nations is already in contact with Russia to suspend its participation in the agreement to export products from Ukrainian ports

The announcement of Russia to suspend its participation in the agreement to export agricultural products from Ukrainian ports has caused great consternation around the world, following attacks on its fleet in Crimea.

The Black Sea Initiative on grains was signed by Russia on 22 July in Turkey and since then several million tons of wheat, maize, sunflower oil, oats, rapeseed and soybeans have been exported from Ukraine.

Kiev: Moscow's "false pretext"

Ukraine's foreign minister has accused Moscow of using a "false pretext" to suspend its participation in the deal to export goods from Ukraine's ports.

"I call on all states to demand that Russia stop playing hunger games and recommit to its obligations," Dmitry Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

UN contacts with Russia

Meanwhile, the United Nations is in contact with Russian authorities following reports that Moscow is suspending its participation in the deal to export goods from Ukrainian ports, UN spokesman Stefan Dujarich said.

"It is vital that all parties refrain from any action that would jeopardize the Black Sea Grains Initiative, which is a critical humanitarian effort that has a clear positive impact on food access for millions of people around the world," Dujarich stressed.
