[Cyprus Times] Failure to check SafePass cost two establishments dearly

24 citizens and 4 premises managers charged with COVID violations, 2,302 inspections

In the last 24 hours (from 06.00 on Thursday until 06.00 today), 2,302 checks were carried out by the Police nationwide in order to ascertain compliance with the measures and implementation of the provisions of the Infectious Diseases Act.

As a spokesman for the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters, a spokesman for the Communication Branch of the Police Headquarters told CNA, 24 complaints from citizens and 4 premises managers were received during the inspections.

As for the checks by province, 870 checks were carried out in Licosia, which resulted in 8 complaints from citizens and 1 establishment, 247 checks were carried out in Lemesos, which resulted in 6 complaints from citizens and 2 establishments, and 493 checks were carried out in Larnaca, which resulted in 2 complaints from citizens and 1 establishment; in Pafos 114 checks were carried out, which resulted in 4 complaints from citizens; in Amohistos 380 checks were carried out, which resulted in 4 complaints from citizens; in Morfu 105 checks were carried out, without any complaints.

Also, nationwide, the Traffic Police conducted 89 checks, with no complaints arising.

Of the 2,302 checks, 4 involved the Coastal and Maritime Police, from which no complaints arose.

In response to a question, a spokesperson for the Police Headquarters Communications Branch said that the majority of complaints to citizens concerned the non-use of a protective mask.

In relation to the one establishment in Nicosia, it was a cafeteria where a patron was found inside the establishment without a safepass and a fine of €4,000 was issued.



In Limassol, in one establishment, an inspection revealed that there was no safepass check and a fine of €4.000, was issued, while in the second establishment, an inspection revealed that the owner was not wearing a protective mask and a fine of €1 was issued.000.

In Larnaca, the premises concerned a Bakery, in which an inspection showed that the owner was without a safepass and a fine of €500 was imposed.
