Colombian airport attack kills 3
Two police officers and the alleged gunman were killed yesterday Tuesday morning when explosives were detonated on the perimeter of the international airport in the northern Colombian city of Cucuta, authorities said.
An unidentified man crossed the airport fence and approached the landing strips the first explosion occurred, killing him and scattering human remains in the area, according to police. "While doing reconnaissance in the zone afterwards, our bomb squad located a suitcase" that also exploded, killing two policemen, Yovani Madariaga, the commander of the metropolitan police in Kukuta, told the media."

Flights at the airport were suspended as soon as the first explosion was heard. "We reject and condemn this terrorist act, which, as always, was aimed at destabilizing" the country, said Defense Minister Diego Molano, who hinted that the attack may have been planned on Venezuelan soil, which he said was being used as a base by Colombian guerrilla organizations.

At least four attacks have been recorded in the region this year, including this one with rifles against a helicopter in which President Ivan Duke, accompanied by his ministers, was travelling, at the Kukuta airport on June 25. Neither the head of state nor any of the passengers were injured.
