Anything that promotes and supports research and technology adds value to Cyprus, says AKEL's Secretary General He paid a visit to the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute CMMI, in Larnaca

Anything that promotes and supports research and technology adds value to Cyprus, AKEL Secretary General Stefanos Stefanou said today, following a visit to the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute CMMI in Larnaca.

t№6 In his statements, Mr Stefanou said that today's visit is "one of those visits that revive your optimism for the country because you see that where there is a vision, we also find ways to pioneer and innovate." He added that "the Institute is really making a very optimistic and promising start."

t№8 Mr. Stefanou congratulated the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Vyra and Zacharias Siokuros, Director of the Institute, because, as he explained, "a very important and very optimistic start has been made, because it seems to have gained the trust of Europe for what is being done. There are European funds with the prospect that these will increase depending on the progress and the work done at the Institute."

t№10 He also mentioned that "the Institute is called upon to promote research, innovation and academic and university work in the direction of applied sciences and solutions, in an area that we believe that Cyprus can lead the way."

t№12 The AKEL Secretary General also noted that "we are an island state and normally the sea should be our culture, and we can prove to be pioneers and put Cyprus on the map of both research and innovation, which we need so much, but also to show that Cyprus has potential in both science and applied technologies."

t№14 This is why, he continued, "it is for this reason that I mentioned that the Institute is one of the places that you visit and reinforce hope and optimism for this country. This is how we open up horizons for the place and gain international recognition," he said, adding that "anything that promotes and supports research technology is something that adds value to our place."
