[BBquote]Cyprus' keen interest in enhancing cooperation with Egypt in various fields was conveyed by President Nicos Anastasiades to Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri during their meeting in Nicosia on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez.[BBquote]
[BBp]According to the statement, Egyptian diplomatic chief Sameh Shoukri conveyed the greetings of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to President Anastasiades, "praising the upgrading of relations through the Intergovernmental Meeting at the level of the leaders of the two countries, during the last visit of the Cypriot President to Cairo in September 2021, as well as the numerous bilateral visits between the two countries, which reflects the common desire to promote bilateral cooperation issues in the political and economic fields."[BBp][BBp]The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the meeting of Mr. Soucri's meeting with President Anastasiades addressed [BBb]a number of cooperation issues in various fields[BBb], especially in energy, agriculture and transport, while the importance of cooperation in the electricity interconnection sector was stressed, especially after the signing of the relevant memorandum of understanding in October 2021 and the trilateral memorandum of cooperation between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece on electricity interconnection.[BBp][BBp]Also, as highlighted by Cairo, Egyptian Minister Sameh Shoukri highlighted the importance of the role of the[BBb] Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum[BBb] with regard to enhancing regional energy cooperation in the region.[BBp][BBp]At the same time, the Egyptian Foreign Minister congratulated Cyprus on its upcoming assumption of the rotating presidency of the Forum for the year 2022.[BBp][BBp]According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry statement, President Anastasiades asked the Egyptian Foreign Minister to convey his greetings to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, stressing Cyprus' great interest in strengthening cooperation with Egypt in various fields, looking forward to activating the proposed projects and seeking new horizons of cooperation in light of the close relations and partnership that unites the two countries.[BBp][BBp]Source: CNA[BBp][BBp][BBp]
