[B-2]Economy and energy in the context of the Cyprus problem at the meeting of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot parties What the joint communiqué of the Slovak Embassy says[B-3]
[B-4]The economy and energy in the context of the Cyprus problem were discussed today at the meeting of leaders and representatives of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties participating in the bicommunal meetings in Ledra Palace. The meeting was held at the House of Cooperation.[B-5][B-6] According to a joint communiqué issued by the Slovak Embassy which organises these meetings, the representatives of the parties agreed that strengthening economic cooperation would facilitate the political process and the dialogue on the Cyprus settlement and that an eventual solution in itself would be beneficial for the economic and social well-being of all Cypriots.[B-7][B-8] Furthermore, it is stated, they agreed that the dire economic situation has exacerbated energy prices and the need to shift to less polluting and more renewable energy production options. The common energy policy could be used as a catalyst for economic integration, it added.[B-9][B-10] The representatives of the political parties further expressed the view, "that EU funding to facilitate the green transition should be used to the benefit of both communities. All this cooperation on economic aspects would contribute to confidence building on the island."[B-11][B-12]Source: CNA[B-13][B-13]
