The economic conditions favour the search for other ways, says the French Ambassador on EastMed He was asked to comment on the developments
The assessment that the economic conditions today favour the search for other ways of energy supply, French Ambassador to Greece, Patrick Mesonave, was asked to comment on the developments regarding the East Med.
"East Med remains a project of interest, but today the economic conditions favour the search for other ways of energy supply, in particular the electrical interconnection or LNG. There is no intention to make East Med a strategic or political affair, but only to look at the facts, which show that economically it makes more sense to promote other projects," the French ambassador said during a briefing to the Greek press on Monday afternoon, on the occasion of the assumption of the French presidency of the European Council.
At the same time, when asked about the possibility of a crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean during the French presidency, he replied that "today I have no evidence that would lead me to think that we are heading towards a crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean", while recalling "the recent events to which France reacted and did so in a firm and clear way by supporting Greece and Cyprus."
