[Cyprus Times] Drunk driver crashed into a vehicle at traffic lights, insulted and kicked a police officer

Driving under the influence of alcohol, causing a road collision, assaulting a police officer Handcuffing a 58-year-old man in Nicosia

Around 10 o'clock last night, a road traffic collision occurred at the traffic lights at the junction of Athalassa and Limassol avenues in Nicosia.

Specifically, a car driven by a 58-year-old man on Athalassa Avenue in Nicosia, under circumstances being investigated by the police, collided with the rear of a vehicle ahead driven by a 38-year-old man with a 30-year-old woman as a passenger.

During examinations at the scene of the road traffic collision, an alcohol test was carried out on the two drivers.[/B] The reading in the 38-year-old's test was zero while the reading in the 58-year-old's test was 102μg instead of 22μg which is the maximum legal limit. He was then subjected to a final breath test where he allegedly failed to provide a satisfactory breath sample.

It is noted that the 58-year-old, who was arrested and taken into custody, assaulted a member of the police force, abused him and kicked him in the leg.

Nicosia Traffic Police in cooperation with the Nicosia Central Police Station are continuing their investigations.
