Minister of Justice and Public Order, Stefi Drakou, will participate in the work of the Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council of the European Union, which will take place on 3 and 4 February.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, in the context of the first Council under the French Presidency, the Ministers are expected to hold a general policy debate on the strengthening of the Schengen area through the adoption of relevant tools and measures that will contribute to a more effective implementation of the acquis and to the creation of a mechanism to respond immediately to threats in times of crisis to the single area of free movement.

In addition, measures will be considered to address the growing trend across Europe for the use of hate speech on the internet, by strengthening cooperation between telecommunication service providers and the judicial authorities of the Member States.

In parallel, Ministers will exchange views on the introduction of a pan-European system for tracing missing children. The aim of the discussion is to enhance cross-border cooperation and the establishment of common standards of action by national law enforcement authorities in cases of child abduction.

The meeting will conclude with an examination of the issue of the recognition of judgments concerning the recognition of the role of parenthood between Member States in the context of the strategy on children's rights.

The Minister returns to Cyprus on Saturday 5 February.
