Beware of the messages we send, says K. Tsioutis on reports of an end to the pandemic The next mutation is a matter of time and no one can guarantee that it will be "milder," he stresses

""Before we rush once again to get caught up in only specific or early data, let's try to see the full picture," says the head of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Dr Konstantinos Tsioutis, in a post on his personal Twitter account, regarding reports and statements suggesting the end of the pandemic.

Specifically, he says in his post that, daily transmissions continue to disrupt our daily lives, the positivity rate remains high, even with the many tests we do, admissions continue at an increased rate.

He also adds that COVID-19 is not a simple flu, it shows severe symptoms frequently, we see people with long-COVID every day, we record deaths every day, noting that not only the elderly die and the elderly also have a right to life. He also states that "as much as health systems have been strengthened, they have certain limits."

According to Tsioutis, "primary care and hospitals continue to be focused on patients with COVID19 because of the very high number of cases."

He also states that the next mutation is a matter of time and no one can guarantee that it will be "milder" and that most of the world remains unvaccinated.

Drugs, he notes, "will help, but they have specific indications and are not for everyone, nor do they reduce transmission; long-term immunity (natural or from vaccines) will be confirmed or not, only through experience."

What drives transmissions, the SEA chief continues, "is human behaviour: the main reason we have surge outbreaks is complacency and hasty conclusions."

The "unlocking" of society, Mr. Tsioutis, "is an attempt to adapt to the new daily reality of the pandemic, this cannot be done if we do not look at the issue maturely, collectively, facing the truth that the data shows us and putting above all the safety of all."

"Let's not confuse this effort with what we hope will happen and above all, let's be careful in the messages we give," he concludes."
