"We are waiting a few more days to see if there will be any admissions due to Omicron in order for us to conclude what the symptoms are and if they are indeed mild. It is important to see if Omicron's length of hospitalization is reduced and how many will end up in intensive care," he said."

Better conclusions about Omicron's morbidity, the doctor explained, will be drawn in about 10 days. In hospitals, as Dr. Kypri underlines, unvaccinated patients

continue to be hospitalized and some are even from the same families.

"80% of people in intensive care units are unvaccinated and this shows us the importance of vaccination," he notes.

32 respirators are coming

At the same time, the spokesman of the OCYPY, Haralambos Harilaou, appears reassuring about the situation in hospitals, speaking to the Cyprus

Times, noting that there is no huge increase in hospitalisations, despite the thousands of cases recorded every day.

"Of course, we will see how the next few days unfold, but we have an action plan that is in full swing and we are monitoring what is happening on a daily basis," he stresses.

He adds that OKYPY has arranged for 32 state-of-the-art respirators to be brought in to equip hospitals. "The ventilators are expected to arrive in January so that we can strengthen our equipment."
