Tommy Knowles and his team on the research vessel Rachel Carlson have spotted a strange fish called Macropinna microstoma

A fish rarely spotted by researchers and divers has been found and documented by members of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research in California.

Tommy Knowles and the Rachel Carlson boat team had been diving very deep to collect material for a report to be made in the coming days, when they came across a Macropinna microstoma.

This is a very special fish, as its forehead is transparent as you can see in the video.

This one lives at 600 to 800 meters below the sea surface and therefore its detection is very rare, as at such depths there is total darkness.

Its length can reach up to 15 cm, it lives on zooplankton and if one is lucky one can catch it in the Bering Sea, Japan and Baja California.

I spy with my barreleye, a new #FreshFromTheDeep!
