The time of judgement for the director has arrived

The time of judgement for Dimitris Lignadis is approaching as on 11 February 2022 he will sit in the dock of the Mixed Jury Court accused of four cases of rape of minors or young men.

Twenty days after the issuance of the indictment against the imprisoned director-actor, the competent Prosecutor of the Athens Appeals Court set the date for the hearing of the complex case.

Dimitris Lignadis, through his lawyer Alexis Kougias, expresses his "gratitude for the development" while the statement notes: "We do not wish to make any comment on the substance of the case and all we want to state is that both Mr. Alexios Kougias and his office colleagues as well as Mr. Dimitrios Lignadis will do everything possible and legal, so that a fair decision is made."

In the indictment, unanimously, the judges ruled that he should be tried as there was "sufficient evidence of guilt for the act of serial rape attributed to him." The Judicial Council adopted the prosecutor's proposal, which described the formerly popular director as "a dangerous person, with passions and obsessions, inspired by strong anti-social feelings". The prosecutor, in a cataclysmic proposal, outlines the profile of Dimitris Lignadis, saying that "he is a well-known actor, director and acting teacher, while in September 2019 he was appointed artistic director of the National Theatre. He is unmarried and has been living in an apartment in Athens since 2008. He declares himself bisexual with many relationships in his life with both sexes, but also with many occasional contacts even on a paid basis."

The prosecutor in her proposal is categorical that "there are serious indications of guilt which have not weakened while on the other hand the repeated commission of the act, his long-term action, the method he has developed to approach his victims, building with them a relationship of trust and dependence, taking advantage of his social, professional and financial position to lure them, but also their own vulnerable economic and social position, the fact that he walked in public with his underage victims, without any parole, and his unrepentant attitude to date, show that he is a dangerous person, with passions and obsessions, inspired by strong anti-social feelings, so that the maintenance of his temporary detention is considered necessary to prevent him from committing new criminal acts.

Dimitris Lignadis is accused of raping a 25-year-old man in 2010, another man in 2015 in Epidaurus, the rape of a now 24-year-old man in 2015, and the rape of another man in 2018.
