We do not accept ultimatums from Turkey, Nikos Dendias said Speaking during the budget debate in the Greek Parliament
Greece does not accept ultimatums and does not succumb to threats from Turkey, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias sent a message during his speech at the Budget debate in the Greek Parliament.
Referring to Greek-Turkish relations, the Cyprus problem and the Turkish-Turkish memorandum, Dendias said that "the tactic that first I break the law and then I negotiate my illegality for a legal exchange has come to an end." "And this applies to Cyprus and to the Cyprus problem, where Turkey must come back to the framework of a UN solution," he added.
As he argued, "Turkey in its efforts to normalize its relations with Europe and the West is not facing us. It is facing its own illegalities. The threat of war against Greece, its refusal to accede to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the unsubstantiated and illegal Turkish-Colibian memorandum, the questioning of the sovereignty of the Greek islands under the pretext of demilitarization, the revisionism towards international treaties, the overflights over the Greek islands, the violations of national airspace and territorial waters, the instrumentalization of the migration issue, the deviation from the rule of law".
"I think it is time for Turkey to change course, for our peoples to live safely and peacefully and for Turkey to join the new architecture of the region and for the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean to become seas of peace and cooperation," the Greek Foreign Minister said.
Referring to the Greek government's foreign policy, Dendias said that it has made a decisive contribution to "stopping Turkey on the ground. It has sensitized the EU and the West with regard to the new eastern issue and forced Turkey to follow the developments in the region, looking for dialogue partners."
At the same time, the Greek Foreign Minister called on the opposition parties to demonstrate a spirit of unity on foreign policy issues and against Turkey's revisionism.
"I ask you to align all political forces, with national logic and national interest as the common denominator. I ask you to maintain alignment in the face of revisionism. I ask you for unity in the face of the real threat. I ask you for unity in the face of the insolence of casus beli, the ideologies of the "blue homeland", the ideologies of the Ottoman heart, I ask you for unity and unity, because these are the strong national shield," Dendias concluded, addressing the opposition parties.
