The Egyptian authorities have proceeded to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the murder of Nikos Katsikas

The Egyptian authorities attribute the death of the Greek journalist in Cairo to murder. Born in 1966, Nikos Katsikas worked as a correspondent for the Athens News Agency in Egypt and worked with ERT for many years.


His body was found at his home, as he had given no signs of life for days.

Police determined that it was a murder and in cooperation with the prosecution, they expedited investigations to reveal the circumstances of the crime. According to Al-Ahram, they arrested a restaurant distributor who knew the victim. According to the Egyptian newspaper, authorities believe that the motive is robbery.

An active member of the Greek community in Egypt, Katsikas founded the newspaper Phos in Cairo and edited the monthly edition of the Alexandrian Postman in Alexandria, and was also vice-president of the Greek Cultural Center of Cairo.

"The Hellenic Cultural Centre of Cairo sadly bids farewell to journalist Nikolaos Katsikas, a man who loved his work, the Egyptian Greeks and Egypt," the organisation said in a statement.

On the death of Nikos Katsikas, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a statement which also said that our competent consular authorities are in constant contact with the competent Egyptian authorities.
