Crowd against Russian invasion of Ukraine Over 100,000 demonstrators
A crowd of at least 100,000 people took part in today's (Sunday) peace demonstration in the centre of Berlin.
Under the slogans "No to war", "Solidarity with Ukraine", "Switzerland, freeze their accounts", but also "I'd rather cook on fire than cooperate" and "Putin is not Russia", people of all ages gathered in the Brandenburg Gate area carrying Ukrainian flags, while an emergency session on the war in Ukraine was underway in the Federal Parliament. Among the organisers were groups from the Ukrainian diaspora and German human rights organisations.
The police had blocked the street in front of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, which is located in the same area, while loudspeakers called on those gathered to observe hygiene measures by keeping their distance and wearing masks.
The gathering, which took place "almost without problems and peacefully", according to the police statement, dispersed four hours later.
