[Cyprus Times] Considerations for testing in the suburbs if the outbreak continues

Health Ministry and epidemiologists "see" tests in younger children as well - Stricter measures were called for days ago by the PDOED to increase safety in school halls, says Harris Charalambous

The rapid[/B] test is expected to be recommended by the Ministry of Health, if there is no improvement in the epidemiological picture in schools in the coming days, according to the Cyprus Times.

A recommendation endorsed by several of the members of the Scientific Advisory Committee in an attempt to identify positive cases early before they enter the schools.

According to the scientists, testing children in preschool as well as special education will enhance the safety of preschools, as under the current measures, they are not required to be tested before entering their classrooms.

The measure of testing once a week is expected to be put back on the table at the next meeting of scientists with the Minister of Health.

However, stricter measures in pre-primary and special education have long been called for by the PDOED ,notes speaking to the Cyprus

Times the organization's General Secretary, Harris Charalambous.

"We have been calling for stricter measures that would contribute to the safety of children and teachers for a long time, because unfortunately schools were opened without any protection measures," he said.

Asked specifically about the testing of young children, he said that "it is up to the experts to decide what measures to take."
