A call for applications for experts to participate in the five mission boards that will advise on the implementation of European Union missions, the Commission announced on Wednesday.
As noted, these missions are about finding solutions to global challenges by 2030, such as climate change, tackling cancer, ocean and water restoration, climate-neutral and smart cities and a European soil deal.
"Each board will be composed of up to 15 high-level experts from different fields such as business, public administration, science, culture, civic participation and civil society organisations from across Europe and beyond," it says.
Like the first similar councils that operated until December 2021, the tasks of the new councils will be to raise awareness and advise on actions at national level.
"This new call for participation in the mission boards is an opportunity to harness new skills and bring together top experts to support the missions," said Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Commissioner Marija Gabriel.
The missions are an innovation of the Horizon Europe programme and involve various Commission services under the supervision of nine members of the College of Commissioners. As stated, they provide a mandate to achieve specific objectives in the areas of health, climate and environment within a defined timeframe.
The call for applications to join the five mission boards will be made on a dedicated website ( https:/ec.europa.eu/transparency/expert-groups-register/screen/calls-application?lang=en ) and will be open until 2 February 2022, 18:00 (Cyprus time).
