Clear message that the procedures and work towards the implementation of the mega project to develop LNG import infrastructure at Vasiliko continue unhindered, sent the Minister of Energy.

Speaking after the end of a meeting at the Presidential Palace with a delegation of AKEL, Natasha Pilidou, asked by journalists, said that the timetable for the completion of the project remains unchanged.

"We are on a very good track and the timetable remains as it is, namely the summer of 2023," the Energy Minister said, thus confirming reports that the meetings and consultations held in the previous days in this direction had produced "white smoke".

And she gave a response to what was reported about delays.

"The delays that had been identified had been announced long ago. The timetable remains unchanged, summer 2023. A delay of a few months for such a complex project and certainly by the standards of the coronavirus is almost expected. Both DEFA and our Ministry are monitoring the schedules very closely."

And he added that the problems that had been identified have largely been solved. "We believe that the problems that had been identified have been resolved with the cooperation of the consortium and the aim - both ours and the developer's - is that there should be no delays," the Energy Minister explained.

According to the Cyprus Times, during the preceding meetings involving the government and DEFA on the one hand and the construction company on the other, the will for the uninterrupted continuation of work on the Vasilikos terminal was reaffirmed and solutions were given to issues caused by the pandemic. Acceleration towards the completion of the project, had been called for in the previous days by the President of the Republic himself.
