Statement by Christos Christofidis, Head of the Education Sector of the AKEL Central Committee "Huge inconvenience to parents and pupils caused by the sloppy implementation of the test to stay measure"
Huge inconvenience to parents and pupils caused by the sloppy implementation of the test to stay measure, stresses in a written statement by Christos Christofides, Head of the Education Sector of AKEL and MP of the party, while calling on the Ministry of Education to cooperate "with all educational partners and to make a serious planning".
Statement by Christos Christofides, Head of the Education Sector of the EL AKEL:
We had warned about the sloppiness of the Ministry in the implementation of the test-to-stay measure. Unfortunately, it turns out that we were absolutely right when we said that the Ministry is not ready to respond, there is insufficient planning and there has been no real dialogue, neither with educational organisations nor with parents.
So a measure is being implemented which is causing enormous problems in the operation of schools, but at the same time is causing inconvenience to thousands of parents and thousands of pupils.
Dozens of pupils are flocking to the reference schools, but also parents who are obviously accompanying the pupils. A pandemonium is created and at the same time there are questions of security, who is getting in and out of the schools.
People are losing wages, people are losing hours of work, students and parents are inconvenienced by constant travel.
In addition, there are those cases of students whose parents are unable to take them to the reference school.
We want to call, once again, on the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to cooperate with all educational partners and, at last, to do some serious planning so that they stop inconveniencing thousands of parents and thousands of pupils.
As AKEL we had warned and pointed out the sloppiness in the implementation of the measure. We had asked for specific things, which unfortunately were not done, and as a result we are currently facing and experiencing this enormous suffering.
