A resounding response to Turkish Defense Minister Houloussi Akar who defiantly stated yesterday that "Kastelorizo is only 1.95 kilometers (1.2 miles) from Turkey and cannot have 40,000 square kilometers of maritime zone, was given today from the border island by Deputy Minister of National Defense Nikos Hardalias.

Deputy Minister of National Defence Nikos Hardalias, on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 December 2021, visited Units, Guard Posts and Services of the Armed Forces and the Coast Guard in the Area of Responsibility of the 95 Superior Command of the National Guard Battalions (ADTE), in the island complex of Kastellorizo.

Specifically, on Christmas Eve, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the small islands of Ro and Strongyli, where he visited the homonymous Guard Outposts of the Land Army and laid a wreath at the monument of the Lady of Ro, as a tribute to her work and her contribution to the homeland.

In the afternoon hours, Mr. Chardalias visited the Guided Missile Patrol Boat GRIGOROPOULOS of our Navy, which is on a mission in the region. During the visit, a short tour of the main quarters of Pyraylakatu and a dinner was served.

On Christmas Day, the Deputy Minister of National Defence attended the Divine Liturgy at the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, in Kastellorizo.

Subsequently, he went to the headquarters of the Island Defence Command (DAN) where he was briefed by its Commander, Colonel (PZ) Athanasios Foteinoglou, on the mission, work and activities of DAN and sat down to lunch with its staff.



As part of the two-day visit, the Deputy Minister of National Defence spoke with the officers, non-commissioned officers and enlisted soldiers of the Guard, who with high spirit and passion guard the borders of our country at its southeasternmost tip, the proud and beautiful Kastellorizo, and exchanged greetings in view of the Holy Days of Christmas and the coming of the New Year.

From Castellorizo, Mr. Chardalias made the following statement. We make it clear that the men and women of the Armed Forces remain ready, whenever necessary, to defend the sacred and sacred, our national independence, the sovereign rights of all Hellenism."

Finally, the Deputy Minister of National Defence visited the Port Station of Megisti and met with the Mayor Mr. Georgios Samsakos, representatives of the local government and residents.

The Deputy Minister of National Defence was welcomed on his arrival in Rhodes by the Commander of the 95th Higher Command of the National Guard Battalions (ADTE), Major General Emmanuel Theodorou.
