Ο Χ. Georgiades told COSAC that it is important for the EU to speak with a single voice on the international stage What the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs said
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Harris Georgiades, referred to the goal of building a strong and sovereign EU in the world, and stressed that in order to achieve it, it is important for the EU to speak with a single voice on the international stage and for its actions to be concrete and credible.
Georgiades made the above-mentioned reference in an intervention at the Meeting of the Chairs of the European Affairs Committees of the Parliaments of the Member States of the European Union (COSAC), which took place in the context of the parliamentary dimension of the current French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), on Friday, via internet.
According to a Parliamentary statement, the debate focused on the priorities of the French Presidency.
Georgiades criticised the instrumentalisation of migration from Belarus and Turkey, arguing that this issue is particularly important for Cyprus, which receives the largest number of asylum seekers in proportion to its population among EU Member States.
He said that it is imperative that member states reach an agreement as soon as possible on the new Pact on Immigration and Asylum, which promotes unity, solidarity and the principles and values of the EU.
