The changes to the duration of vaccination and infection certificates, announced by the Greek Ministry of Health, came into force with the publication of a decree in the Official Gazette on 2 April.

More specifically, Greece is now in line with the Commission's rules and thus the validity of the vaccination certificate is extended to nine months and that of the certificate of infection to six months.

Until now, the vaccination certificate was valid for seven months and the certificate of infection for three months.

The new EIS (D1a/GP.οικ.18959/02.04.2022 (Government Gazette B 1547) includes all the measures that will be in force until 11 April. Among other things, however, the EO notifies the new framework for vaccination and infection certificates.

More specifically, the EIS on measures and certificates states that fully vaccinated persons are considered to be:

a) those who have completed at least fourteen (14) days ago the vaccination for coronavirus COVID-19 and present a vaccination certificate with simultaneous verification of the holder's identity and b) those who have been vaccinated for coronavirus COVID-19 with the first dose of the two (2) dose vaccine, then become ill with coronavirus COVID-19 and present a certificate of full recovery and vaccination coverage with simultaneous verification of the holder's identity.

As regards the certificates of infection, it is recalled that they are issued:

a) following laboratory testing by PCR for COVID-19 coronavirus within fourteen (14) days after the first positive test,

b) specifically for fully vaccinated persons, in accordance with the provisions of par. 2, and following a positive test using the rapid test for the detection of COVID-19 coronavirus antigen.

The decisive point of the Decree on certificates of infection states that now "the validity of the certificate of infection lasts up to one hundred and eighty (180) days after the above-mentioned single or first positive test".

The decisive point of the Decree on certificates of infection states that now "the validity of the certificate of infection lasts up to one hundred and eighty (180) days after the above-mentioned single or first positive test".

The first positive test shall be carried out by (a) a public authority in accordance with the relevant legislation or (b) public or private reference laboratories and shall include the full name of the person as it appears on the identity card or passport.

With regard to unvaccinated persons, if a repeat laboratory test using the PCR method is carried out after the one hundred and eighty (180) days of validity of the certificate of infection plus one (1) day and is positive, a new certificate of infection shall not be reissued, subject however to the public health protection measures imposed. With respect to vaccinated persons, for adults who have been vaccinated with either the two (2) doses of the vaccine or the monovalent vaccine and are reinfected with coronavirus COVID-19 a second time within the validity period of the vaccination certificate (i.e. within nine (9) months of the administration of the second or single dose), a certificate of reinfection shall be issued, which shall be valid for one hundred and eighty (180) days.

The certificate of full coverage-recovery and vaccination mentioned above is also valid for 180 days, i.e. six months.

These certificates are presented either printed from the digital platform gov.gr or electronically through the person's mobile device or through the special application of Article 182 of Law No. 4876/2021.
