[/QUOTE]Increased cases in hospital staff The reduction of quarantine in the general population was not considered appropriate at this stage Several patients appear positive even after 5 days
The reduction of quarantine to 5 instead of 10 days currently in force for the general population, is something that has been discussed repeatedly at meetings between the Minister of Health and members of the Scientific Advisory Committee.
Although some of the scientists insisted on the position to reduce the quarantine to 5 or 7 days because of the Omicron mutation which is considered milder, however as the Cyprus Times is informed, this measure did not receive a green light as a review conducted in other countries such as the US, which implemented it showed that it did not work positively[/B].
In their last meeting on Tuesday the experts, according to reliable information, found that the measure reducing quarantine for health professionals in Cyprus did not help much, so they ruled out for the time being its extension to the general population.
Asked to comment on why quarantine was not reduced to 5 or 7 days, Dr. Peter Karagiannis says that what was found is that half of those who were sick with coronavirus had symptoms and were positive after 5 days, so the measure did not qualify for the general population.
Outbreaks in staff in all hospitals...
At the same time, however, and according to recent government measures, the self-limitation time was reduced only for health professionals in order to avoid staff shortages in hospitals. Something which, as can be seen, did not work positively. In recent days outbreaks have been detected among staff in all hospitals leaving a significant number of employees out of the "battle".
"In all hospitals there are outbreaks among staff and it is a natural consequence of the increased outbreaks throughout the community," Cyprus Times spokesman of the OCYPY Haralambos Harilaou tells the Cyprus Times.
Information indicates that several cases were detected among the staff of the Reference Hospital.
