The Church's contribution to the President's struggle for a solution to the Cyprus problem is invaluable, says Karousos

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Yannis Karousos described the contribution of the Church to the struggle of the President of the Republic to curb Turkish intransigence and restart the process for a solution to the Cyprus problem as timeless and valuable.

Addressing the inauguration of the Holy Monastery of St. Anthony in Dheryneia, the Minister said that the church "functioned around 1850 as a nunnery and since then it has been an important monument for the border community of Dheryneia and Famagusta in general. The church has played an important role and is a symbol of female monasticism in Cyprus."

The Transport Minister also referred to "the long-standing and valuable contribution of the Church to the struggle that the President of the Republic is determinedly undertaking to overcome the intransigence of the Turkish side and to restart the process of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, which will guarantee the rights and freedoms of the entire Cypriot people."

The Transport Minister also referred to "the long-standing and valuable contribution of the Church to the struggle of the President of the Republic to overcome the intransigence of the Turkish side and to restart the process of finding a solution to the Cyprus problem, which will guarantee the rights and freedoms of the entire Cypriot people.

He added that "according to written reports, both the Holy Monastery of Saint George of Alamanos and the Holy Monastery of Saint Theklis in Sotira were founded by the nuns of the Holy Church of Saint Anthony of Deryneia, who with respect and deep religiosity undertook the difficult task of developing the two Holy Churches into religious and spiritual centres".

Today's day, he continued, "has a solemn character for the Metropolis of Constantia and Famagusta, the citizens of Deryneia and the region of Famagusta, as well as the faithful throughout Cyprus" and offered warm congratulations to those who worked and carried out the renovation of the Church.

At the same time, he expressed the certainty that "the Holy Church of St. Anthony will serve as a refuge of Christian love, where every fellow citizen will draw strength to face the difficulties he experiences".
