The proposed state budget for 2022 maintains its developmental and social character through primary expenditure of 8 billion euros, DISY MP Fotini Tsiridou said.

In her speech during the debate on the 2022 Budget in the Parliament, she said that "through the Budget and without any need for new taxes or other burdens, the implementation of the ambitious development programme continues, the possibility of exercising effective social policy is maintained, the implementation of the General Health System, a plan that kept the country standing during the period of the pandemic, is supported, the important armament upgrade programme of the National Guard is implemented at a time when the geopolitical "Nevertheless, the Government has done its best to present a budget that presents a positive medium-term outlook. Sustainable growth, proper implementation of the Recovery Plan, social cohesion through government interventions and necessary reforms are our guide," he said.

At the same time, he continued, the reduction of public debt to sustainable levels, the achievement of a fiscal surplus, the protection of consumers' living standards from possible inflationary pressures and the safeguarding of citizens' welfare in general complete the government's package of measures.

"We have to decide what kind of Cyprus we want for the coming years. A country based on a green economy, digital planning, research and innovation, rational and effective management of non-performing loans. It is also important development and infrastructure projects that contribute to the growth and recovery of the economy in the medium and long term," she added.

Ms. Tsiridou said that DISY will vote in favour of the proposed State Budget and supports both the economic policy pursued by the government and the ambitious reform effort under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
