Bill Gates' big concern for 2022 Citizens' distrust of governments

For the most part, Bill Gates is optimistic about 2022. But the billionaire Microsoft co-founder still has some concerns about next year.

In a recent year-end post titled "Reasons for optimism after a tough year," Bill Gates makes multiple rosy predictions - from the potentially ending Covid pandemic to the upcoming growth of the metaverse.

But according to Gates, one particular problem could slow or derail much of this progress: citizen distrust of governments. "It is one of the issues I am most concerned about in 2022," he wrote.

Public institutions, Gates noted, need to be major players in battles like addressing climate change or preventing the next pandemic. But they can only do so much if they have the support of the people.

"If your people don't trust you, they will not support important new initiatives," Gates wrote. "And when a major crisis occurs, they are less likely to follow the necessary instructions to weather the storm."
