Bernie Madoff's sister was found dead along with her husband, less than a year after the death of the former stockbroker, who was convicted of the biggest Ponzi scheme in stock market history.
Sondra Winner[/B], 86, and her husband Marvin Winner were found dead Thursday night in their private gated community home just outside Tampa, Calif. Palm Beach police confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder and suicide together. However, they did not officially confirm the names of the dead.
The news was confirmed by community leaders, who referred to the names of the dead, calling it a "tragic situation." However, they clarified that there is no security threat to anyone in the community.
So far it remains unknown who killed the other and then committed suicide.
Last April, Bernie Madoff, famous for his stock market scam, died in prison at the age of 82. Madoff was convicted of a pyramid scam through which thousands of people lost their life savings. The scam is believed to have started in the early 1970s and by December 2008, when he was arrested, he had defrauded some 37,000 people in 136 countries.
