Apart from the inconvenience, no problems were observed in the elementary schools, says Frixos Zebylas
Doubts whether today's 55-minute teachers' work stoppage in the elementary schools will achieve its goals, expressed the President of the Pancyprian Confederation of Associations of Parents' Associations of Primary Education Schools, Frixos Zebylas, noting that, apart from the inconvenience for parents and students, no other problems were observed.
In a statement to the Cyprus News Agency, Zebylas said that the Confederation is concerned about what will happen if in 15 days no solutions are provided and the PDOED decides to escalate its mobilisations.
"Anything that removes our children from the schools does not please us and apart from that, three of the four demands of the PDOED are also ours, we just don't know whether this strike will achieve its objectives," he added.
Frixos Zebylas said that "apart from the expected basic problem, which was the loss of educational time and the inconvenience to parents, fortunately we have not had any particular reports."
However, he said, two incidents were recorded in the Nicosia and Paphos districts, where schools opened their doors to children at 8.25am instead of 7.00am, resulting in further inconvenience to pupils and parents.
At the same time, he noted that in the Paphos province there is a more general problem, as "every day schools do not open their doors for children at 7.00, but at 7.30, unlike in other provinces".
Asked about this, the Confederation President attributed this phenomenon "to the fact that the instructions of the Ministry of Education are not implemented and there is no proper control by the inspectors."
[/P]It is a long time that the problem has been presented but we have not had any response to our remarks, he concluded his statement.
