Anti-vaccinationists attack Emmanuel Macron MP's house The government is preparing to tighten legislation on coronavirus vaccination

The parking lot at the home of a MP from France's ruling party has been set on fire and an adjacent wall covered in graffiti by alleged anti-vaccinators as the government prepares to tighten legislation on COVID-19 vaccination amid a rapid rise in coronavirus cases.

In Champly, north of Paris, the home of Pascal Bois, an MP for President Emmanuel Macron's ruling LREM party, was targeted on Tuesday night into Wednesday with his car and garage set on fire and phrases such as "Vote No" spray-painted on the walls around his home.

"Such criminal acts of intimidation are unacceptable in a democracy," Interior Minister Gerald Dharmamen tweeted today, adding that police had launched an investigation into the incident.

Similar phrases were recently spray-painted on the wall of LREM MP Carole Biro-Bonnard's office in Noyon, north of Paris.

"It is worrying that some people say that the measures to deal with the pandemic make France look like a dictatorship. They should go and look at some other countries and think about the situation in hospitals, where most of the COVID patients are unvaccinated," Dharmamen commented.

Faced with an explosion of new coronavirus cases, and a record number of more than 208.000 new cases yesterday, the government has required citizens to show a vaccination certificate to enter many public places from 15 January.

Until now it was sufficient to show a negative diagnostic test to enter bars, cinemas and trains.
