The timeline of the crime
As mentioned in a previous Cyprus Times report, around 20:00 on Saturday night, the Police were informed by Interpol that a certain person, a foreigner residing in Paphos had sent a message to a relative abroad that he had killed his wife because she was suffering from a terminal illness and that he was going to end his life.
Members of the Paphos Police, he said, visited the 74-year-old's residence in the immediate aftermath, where they found a woman dead, aged 75, as well as the sender of the message, namely her husband. He allegedly confessed to committing the crime, citing her own wishes because, he said, she was suffering from a terminal illness.
The 74-year-old was arrested today and is being held for further treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Paphos General Hospital. Due to the fact that he attempted to end his life by consuming a number of pharmaceutical preparations, his stomach was lavaged and he was provided with care to escape danger.
