Russia's traffic police department stopped 285,500 drunk drivers in 2021, it said in a statement, noting that it will carry out systematic checks during the New Year celebrations.
The traffic police also said that an additional more than 163,000 drivers were prosecuted for refusing to submit to alcohol tests for drunkenness.
According to traffic data, one in four drivers who died during 2021 were intoxicated.
