Budget 2022 All the times the Centre has ruled, "the results have been all over the place," says Z. Koulias
DIKO MP Zacharias Koulias called the creation of the Republic of Cyprus a "Parthenon" with the liberation struggle to which everyone contributed.
In his speech at the plenary session of the Parliament, Mr. Koulias spoke of Trojan horses in DIKO in the past, "red" and "blue", which led to the election of Christofias and Anastasiades respectively, saying that as many times as the centre ruled "the results were all over the place".
Koulias said that the right wing with the stock exchange had destroyed the middle class and that the state had managed to set up a mechanism to intercept the workers of this class. On the left he said that bank deposits were stolen with the securities, there are recorded admissions, "did you see anyone pay the bride?". Shame on all of us that the citizens' fortunes were stolen in broad daylight, in a semi-dominated country with 200.000 refugees".
Koulias also referred to the closure of Cyprus Airlines, which he also described as a "Parthenon" that we inherited from our grandfathers and grandfathers, and to the Co-operative "which you have literally destroyed". I do not blame you, he said, "you know so much, you do so much."
Referring to the pandemic, Koulias said that "the state has taken it a bit too far" and tabled an EP resolution saying that even in emergency situations the fundamental principles of the rule of law, democracy and respect for the fundamental rights of citizens should prevail, with reference to 36 EU conventions to which Cyprus is a signatory. We should not divide citizens into vaccinated and unvaccinated, there is persuasion, he added. He called for measures on the pandemic to be debated and passed in Parliament and for the body to assume their responsibilities.
Finally, referring to the GenSY, the DIKO MP said that "we have reached the disintegration of the system, and the Auditor General's reports reflect this". Instead of upgrading hospitals, we have downgraded them, he added, saying that doctors are leaving, taking more money outside the hospitals while there is no treatment of emergencies and serious cases.
