All British Liberal Democrat MPs have signed a resolution in support of the TLD in Cyprus

The entire parliamentary group of the British opposition Liberal Democrat party has co-signed a motion for a resolution in favour of a bizonal bicommunal federation solution in Cyprus.

The motion was tabled in the House of Commons on 22 February by the Liberal Democrats' Foreign Affairs spokesperson and member of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Cyprus, Leila Moran MP.

The text of the resolution stated that the British legislature "believes that the internationally proposed model of a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, with a federal government with a single international sovereignty and citizenship" is the best way to reach an agreement on the reunification of Cyprus that respects the rule of law and the fundamental rights of all Cypriots.

The Liberal Democrat Chairman Sir Ed Davey signed alongside the parliamentary group, as did APPG Vice-Chair for Cyprus Christine Jardine.

As the UK National Cyprus Federation made known, in meetings with them Mr Davey had stated that "Cyprus will succeed best as an independent and reunited state, with a solution to the Cyprus problem in line with UN Security Council resolutions".

The submission and signing of the draft resolution by the Liberal Democrats comes after the condemnation of the flying of the pseudo-state flag at Waltham Forest Town Hall in north London (on 15 November) by Liberal Democrat councillor Anton George in a joint statement with the National Cyprus Federation, despite an initial controversial statement of support for the move by the party's local organisation.

As the Federation notes, the co-signing of the motion for a resolution by all Liberal Democrat MPs clearly confirms the party's position on the Cyprus issue.
