Mr. Kasoulides said yesterday that "the construction of the EastMed pipeline was in the air from the beginning" and that he had always seen East Med "as a tool for creating problems", AKEL's press spokesman said in a written statement, George Koukumas, while noting that "none of this was said during the years when the Synergy was staging celebrations for EastMed and basing the country's entire foreign policy on - exactly - the air. On the contrary, they rejected warnings - both ours and those of technocrats - and insisted on fostering in society illusions about pharaonic projects that will make Cyprus a superpower."
Koukumas also noted that "the illusions and lies of the Synergy have collapsed. The Cypriot EEZ was left undefended. Varosha is being colonized. The sanctions on Turkey never came. And EastMed was ultimately lip service. In other words, instead of pushing Turkey, Synagermos scored successive own goals in Cyprus."
"I wonder when Mr. Averof Neophytou and Mr. Nikos Christodoulides will show up to pick up the bill for their policies?" he asks in conclusion.
