Airlines warn of "chaos" ahead of 5G implementation "To put it bluntly, the country's commercial activities will freeze"
The heads of major passenger and cargo airlines have warned of an impending "catastrophic" crisis in the country's airline industry, when telecommunications groups AT&T and Verizon Communications roll out their new 5G services.
"The vast majority of commercial and freight traffic will not take place unless permission is given at our most hub locations for flights," the heads of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines and other companies said in a message to the White House, the Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Federal Communications Commission.
"This means that on a day like yesterday, more than 1,100 flights and 100,000 passengers could face cancellations, rerouting or delays."
Urgent action must be taken, they added in their letter, according to Reuters, which was also signed by UPS Airlines, JetBlue Airways and FedEx Express.
"To put it bluntly, the country's commercial operations will be frozen," they noted."

It is noted that aviation authorities in the United States had said that progress had been made to reduce the risk of flight disruptions due to 5G services, which will begin operating on January 19.[/P]It is also worth noting that the AT&T and Verizon Communications groups managed on 3 January to reach a compromise with the relevant US officials.
While these companies had said that their new services did not pose any risk to air transport, the Federal Aviation Administration and aeronautical groups point out that the tests carried out show that the devices, which measure altitude, can lose their reliability if the aircraft comes too close to the mobile phone towers mentioned above.
