The number of cases in schools is limited and the goal is open and safe schools, Minister of Education and Culture Prodromos Prodromou said.
t№6The Ministry of Education continues to aim for open and safe schools t№8, he said, adding that the numbers show that as in the whole world we have a resurgence of the pandemic but also the new mutation.t№10 In his remarks to reporters in Paphos on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new Pafos Municipality Philharmonic Hall, Prodromou said that the numbers of cases recorded in schools are very limited.t№12 Repeatedly, he continued, "we have published numbers. At a time when we may have 600-700 cases in the community, inside the schools it is a few dozen," noting specifically that out of 690 plus, cases, fewer than 20 are detected by school inspections.
t№14 But the issue, he said, is not where they are detected, but that there are a significant number of cases, sowe must continue to respectfully adhere to the measures.
He also said that there is safe pass testing in schools and a vaccination programme has been launched for children as well, noting thatdespite reservations, everyone should understand that vaccination is the best way to protect themselves.
t№19Already, he said, in secondary education there is training by experts in schools to encourage children. The Education Minister said that we already have a number of adolescents who have been vaccinated, saying that together with teachers, who as a whole are vaccinatedwe are creating a safety shield.t№23He pointed out that the common goal of all of us is to continue with physical attendance because, he continued, "despite the significant progress we have made and what we have achieved in distance education, nothing is as good as running schools with physical attendance."
He also said that learning gaps should not be created and that we should not limit children's sociability and daily socialization through schools.
