"We were left in the middle of nowhere, walking against the rails to reach Zachlorou" complain

Unbelievable suffering in the cold and the unknown for dozens of passengers of the Odontotos railway in Kalavryta, as a few kilometres after Zachlorou, the train broke down, with passengers trying to find a way to escape.

As Katerina tells protothema.gr, the information given to them by the workers at Odontotos is that the train has hit a rock and that it is unknown how long it will take until help arrives from Diakopto: "What we are experiencing is a real thriller. The spot is rough and in order to save ourselves we are walking against the tracks heading for Zachlorou. Below is a cliff. There are no words."

The Odontotos route starts from Diakopto, crosses the Vouraikos gorge, passes the village of Zachlorou and ends in Kalavryta: "All in all they say that the Odontotos route takes about 1 hour we are not sure when we will get out of the way. We paid the four of us 80 euros all together. But about four kilometres after Zachlorou the Odontotos took a stone underneath and literally stopped in the middle of nowhere. They took us down and said that they don't know how we will get out of here because it is unknown when another train will come to fix it. The options they gave us were that we could either walk seven kilometers to Kalavryta or four kilometers to Zachlorou. The cold is unbelievable, and there are several groups of tourists among the passengers."

The four friends have taken two tourists from China with them in order to walk to Zachlorou: "We are walking against the rails as the road is far from here. We have to reach Zachlorou and from there we have to call a taxi to take us down to Diakopto where we have our cars. This means we will waste another 50 euros for the trip. The tourists were not told anything. They did not understand what was going on we informed them. It is not easy to get on the road, it is difficult."
