A strong earthquake occurred at 3:08 a.m. and was particularly felt in all cities of Cyprus. According to the Police, there were no reports of any injuries or damage from the strong seismic tremor.


The earthquake was 6.1 on the Richter scale, according to the Geological Survey Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.

The earthquake was epicenter in the marine area of Cyprus, 50 km west-northwest of Polis Chrysochous with a focal depth of 25 km.

The earthquake was strongly felt throughout Cyprus, particularly in the province of Paphos.

It was also felt/perceived across the eastern Mediterranean.

By 05:30 a series of insensitive aftershocks had occurred, with a maximum magnitude of 3.1 on the Richter scale.

The phenomenon is being monitored by the Seismological Center of the Department of Geological Survey.
