PAPHOS CID investigates 72-year-old woman tricked 72-year-old woman allegedly for loan assistance and pocketed thousands of euros in Paphos
A case of conspiracy to commit a felony and extorting a sum of money, amounting to 3.400 euros, with false representations, is being investigated by the Pafos CID against two 48-year-olds, who are wanted to facilitate the interrogations.
According to Pafos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, it was reported by a 72-year-old woman, who resides in Paphos, that in early September 2021 she had agreed with two 48-year-olds to help her secure a loan through a company that the two knew, through legal procedures and after signing the relevant contracts.
As the complainant told the police, at first they allegedly asked her for 400 euros to prepare the contracts through the lawyers. At a later stage, on 6 December 2021, she was allegedlyasked for a sum of 3,000 euros to be deposited in an account maintained by one of the two 48-year-olds, which she did in order to assist in the issuance of her loan.
From that date onwards, the 72-year-old allegedly did not receive any loan, nor any information about the progress of the loan and when she would secure it.
Upon further investigation by the police and according to the complainant the two 48-year-olds are allegedly residing in England. Arrest warrants have been issued against them, they have been searched at their place of residence but have not been located and are wanted.
They are being investigated for the offences of conspiracy to commit a felony and obtaining a sum of money by false representation amounting to €3,400. Investigations are continuing by the Paphos CID.
