A 26-year-old man is in custody for the offences of impersonation and forgery During the passport control it was found that at first sight the identity card is fake

A 26-year-old man[/b] was placed in custody for the offences of impersonation, forgery and circulation of a forged document.

According to Paphos Assistant Police Director Michael Ioannou, yesterday morning a man presented himself at Paphos airport to depart on a flight to Germany, allegedly presenting a French identity card in the name of another person.

During passport control it was found that at first sight the identity card was fake. Interviewed orally in his native French language, he admitted that his true identity was different.

He was subsequently arrested for the offence of impersonation. A further check through the police system revealed that his true details were as he had stated during his interrogation and it appeared that he was allegedly a political asylum seeker with a submission date of 10.3.20 which is still pending.

Therefore, the 26-year-old is permanently residing in the territory of the Republic.

The 26-year-old was transferred to the offices of the Pafos CID and was arrested and detained for the above offences he is facing.
