Without a vaccination history is 80% of patients with coronavirus, who are hospitalized at the Famagusta General Hospital which operates as a Reference Hospital, Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the Larnaca - Famagusta Hospitals, told the Cyprus News Agency.
She added that "currently 57 patients are hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, of which 16 are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as they need closer monitoring. The average age of those hospitalized is 66 years, the youngest patient is 31 years and the oldest 93, both with no history of vaccination."
He noted that "80% of patients hospitalized at the Reference Hospital have not received the coronavirus vaccine. At Larnaca General Hospital there are currently 35 patients with Covid-19, 5 of whom are in PICU conditions.">
The Eden Rehabilitation Centre "accommodates 113 coronavirus positive patients, while 29 patients are being treated in the Post Covid ward. Today, Monday, both people who were coronavirus positive, who will be discharged after ten days according to protocol, and patients who were hospitalised in the Post Covid ward are expected to be discharged."
In response to a relevant question, Ms Hatzigianni replied that "the admissions of patients with coronavirus have started to stabilize, despite the workload of the NICU and especially the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital. The situation is manageable," he said and sent the positive message that "even the small percentage of vaccinated patients admitted to public hospitals is protected from severe disease and death."
He also described as "very important the vaccination against Covid-19, since" as he explained "the data available before scientists and doctors prove that vaccination protected the population. Moreover, from the hospitalizations that exist in the hospitals of Cyprus it is clear that both morbidity and mortality are decreasing."
Regarding the vaccinations in the free province of Famagusta, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "they continue at the same pace, that is, every day about 400 people go to the Vaccination Centers to receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dose of the vaccine."
