Third person, a 34-year-old male[/B], was today brought by the Police before the Court for the hearing of the case of rioting, which occurred in the area of the "Antonis Papadopoulos" stadium, in Larnaca, where last Saturday, the football match between the teams ANORTHOSIS and OMONOIA was held.


After the Court granted the Police's request for immediate registration and hearing of the case and after the 34-year-old responded by not admitting to the charges against him, for the purposes of the court proceedings, the Court issued a temporary order of exclusion from sports venues, and set the next hearing date for 11/05/2022.

The 34-year-old, who was arrested yesterday by members of the Police, with a court warrant, for the purpose of police investigations, was brought before the Larnaca District Court on Wednesday morning, for trial of the case, after the completion of the interrogations concerning him. He faces charges of engaging in rioting and possession of a dangerous object and possession of fireworks.

Two other persons, men aged 32 and 36, were brought before the Larnaca District Court yesterday morning, also for immediate registration and trial of the case. The Court issued interim orders of exclusion from sports venues against them and set the next hearing date for 11/02/2022, when they too are expected to answer the charges against them.

The pending charges facing the 32-year-old and 36-year-old relate to their involvement in rioting, causing damage to property and assaulting members of the police, with the 32-year-old allegedly in possession of a dangerous object and involved in stoning members of the police who had intervened to quell the riot, while the 36-year-old was allegedly among the persons involved in the riot.

The 32-year-old and 36-year-old were arrested by members of the police, on the basis of court warrants, for the purposes of police investigations, the former last Monday and the latter on Tuesday morning yesterday.

Police are continuing to investigate the riot case, having also proceeded to publish a photograph of one person, who is still wanted.
